US Senate Backs Trump on Iran Strikes, Blocks War Powers Limit
The U.S. Senate voted 53-47 against advancing a bipartisan war powers resolution that would have halted the ongoing air campaign against Iran and required congressional authorization for further hostilities. The vote split largely along party lines, with nearly all Republicans blocking the measure and nearly all Democrats supporting it. Republican Sen. Jim Risch declared the conflict would end quickly, while Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer urged senators to stand with an American public opposed to the strikes. The House is set to vote on similar legislation Thursday, though any resolution would need a two-thirds majority to override Trump expected veto.
