Israel's Hospitals Relocate Operations Underground as Wartime Protocols Take Hold

Israeli hospitals have rapidly adapted to wartime conditions following the outbreak of Iranian missile strikes, drawing on lessons from previous conflicts including the October 7 Hamas invasion and the June 2025 war with Iran. Medical centers nationwide moved intensive care units, surgical procedures, and maternity wards underground or into fortified spaces per Health Ministry directives. At Shaarei Tzedek hospital in Jerusalem, underground parking lots were converted into patient wards, while Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya mobilized four hours faster than during previous conflicts. Pop-up clinics were also established in hotels housing evacuees to maintain continuity of care across the country.
