Iranian Kurdish Exile Groups Say They Have Plans to Enter Iran
Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in exile in northern Iraq have told the BBC they have prepared plans to cross the border into Iran but deny having already done so. The groups, armed and organized along the mountainous Iraq-Iran border, represent a potential ground force element that could operate inside Iran if the conflict escalates. The BBC reports that these Kurdish fighters, who have long sought to overthrow the Tehran government, see the current conflict as a strategic opportunity to act on plans years in the making.
